About the writer – Sam West

Skulking in the darkest corners of South Wales, Sam West is a fantasy author whose Welsh roots have helped him develop a passion for rich worldbuilding, layered characters, and stories that explore the resilience of ordinary people in extraordinary worlds.

After first developing the concept of Moonhollow in university, Sam subsequently spent time in Kenya working with street children in rescue centres, schools and orphanages – an experience that has ultimately helped forge the books’ many complex and conflicted characters…. as well as his own.

Having initially released Moonhollow in 2015, Sam was then invited to BAFTA to speak to industry professionals such as Imaginarium Studios about developing Moonhollow and its’ wider story arc further. Realising from the advice given that the story he had originally developed could be made so much richer and complex, Sam then undertook a complete rewrite that created the ‘Moonhollow Origins’ version now available today!

Drawing inspiration from folklore to the darker edges of epic fantasy, as well as from modern-day politics to industrial history, Sam has created the world of Moonhollow — a setting where towering cities, ancient powers, gang warfare and desperate rebellions collide.

When he isn’t writing, Sam works as a drone pilot, travelling to weird and wonderful parts of the UK to fly toys for a living.
